MRS was contracted by XTECH Explosive Decontamination Inc. to complete a geophysical survey for a UXO characterization of Mountain Lake located within the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre, Meaford Ontario. Although the lake is contained within the army base, it is a popular spot for local gun and fishing clubs. The study aimed to identify potential UXOs sitting at the bottom of the lake.
MRS uses cutting edge electromagnetic surveying technology in order to offer the highest standard in geophysical detection and discrimination. The geophysical system deployed included a high-powered transmitter for improved depth detection, multi-gate decay series for target discrimination, base frequency variability and pre-processing control for optimizing the detection capability of expected target types. With custom designed software, MRS was able to deliver exceptional data quality.
Considering that the depth of the lake was approximately 4.5 m, the purpose in identifying suspect targets was to select those that exhibited a response that looked like large grouping of items, such as a pallet or stockpile of munitions. At shallower lake depths, like on the shoreline, individual discrete targets could be identified. A total of 75 targets were submitted by the Project Geophysicist across the survey area.
